born 1986, Canada
Alex Fischer acquired a B.F.A. Honours in Visual Arts, from York University in 2010. Since that time he has raised several solo exhibitions coinciding with a series of independent studies. His hybrid form of action research creates its rigour through continuous reflexivity (taking account of itself), discourse analysis, and hermeneutic inquiry (concerning interpretation). Fischer’s practice blurs the borders between media and extends traditional artistic pursuits and values into the present day.
In 2015, his fourth solo exhibition with O’Born Contemporary exposed an earnest meditation on on the nature of art with its value systems and capitalist patrimony. In early 2014, he completed a digital workshop at OCAD University and was featured in Angell Gallery’s digitally-focused “Simulators II”. The summer of that same year saw Fischer’s inclusion in Art Mûr’s 10th anniversary exhibition of “Peinture fraîche”.
His work has been exhibited internationally, including a solo presentation at VOLTA NY 12, and is featured in noted private and corporate collections including Statoil, TD Bank Group Collection, and BNY Mellon Bank
