Artist Statement

‘Miss/Take’ illustrates the visual possibilities of failure. The digital capture system has an inherently finicky temperament towards instability. These “failures,” rescued from the trash, are devoid of any outside referential information. Mechanically self generated by the system, they seem to possess an inner illumination that suggests another kind of presence. The system’s refusal to copy what is in front of the camera lens leads to the display of the particular conditions of the system itself. Created through no intention of my own, they play with notions of chance, production and originality.

This series explores the betrayal of what we know about photography, that it is a recording of what exists within our physical world. I content that the shortcomings and limitations of photography allows for the visualization of the unimaginable.
