About The Work

Plastikos series, Untitled 1, 2002

In today's world, life without plastics is incomprehensible. Plastics have become an integral part of our homes and everyday lives. In this series, I chose to take a close look at the transparent outer skins that are used to protect and contain, as well as, reveal and display, consumer goods. I removed the objects these plastic packages once contained and rendered these functional three-dimensional items into two-dimensional digital drawings. That which we normally overlook or discard is memorialized through photography and made into a precious object that demands attention. These photograms invite viewers to engage and examine the outlines of the form from afar as well as discover the imperfections and unclean surfaces of plastic from up close.

Untitled 1 from the Plastikos series, is part of Susana Reisman's contribution to AbC's TRASH anthology.
