Gallery TPW | The More Is More Collection
About The Work
"SPECIAL, Lamps, is a photo of a collection of vintage photographs that have lamps on the edge of the frame. I am intrigued by lamps and their ability to encompass atmosphere, design, functionality and style. The act of collecting, and the recycling of existing collections, lies at the conceptual and material core of my practice. Collecting is a common social practice that reflects behavioral patterns as it mirrors aspects of public and private life. It constructs a way in which we relate to each other and instructs how we order the material world. SPECIAL, Lamps, is a display of abandoned photos on a cloth that are configured to spell the word 'Special', a word that can interchange between advertising, something on sale, and the sentimental nature of family photos. This piece was initially made for a recent exhibition at Gallery TPW called WHITE HOT, a white flea market, 2009."
